Jared Posted September 7, 2019 Share #21 Posted September 7, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh, I would certainly expect the quality of the pixels to increase substantially. Much better signal—probably 2 stops or so of additional light with no color filter array. That makes a lot of sense and it consistent with the images I have seen. But 1.3x to 1.5x the resolution? That does not at all match my experiences with monochrome astronomy cameras vs. color cameras. Of course there you have the additional complication of atmospheric turbulence, but based on FWHM measurements in under samplesd seeing conditions (which limit the effects of seeing) the differences in pure resolution are quite small. Not zero, but nowhere near 1.3 - 1.5x the linear resolution. Astronomy is a convenient way to measure since stars act as near perfect point sources subject only to diffraction and lens aberrations. I’m worried we are straying too far off the dust topic, though, so I’ll hush up now.

anrando Posted September 8, 2019 Share #22 Posted September 8, 2019 I used my Q extensively for three years with no dust issues. Finally it did appear quite dramatically. Luckily Leica Tokyo cleaned it without charge even though out of warranty. Clearly they were aware of the issue. W. Unland
dusuacangmong Posted September 9, 2019 Share #23 Posted September 9, 2019 Last week i just saw a guys do black tape those mic holes on top of Q and asked what is it, he told me to prevent the dust goes into the sensor, so i did the same. hope this help. Voxen Posted September 9, 2019 Author Share #24 Posted September 9, 2019 As a followup, after a couple of new mail exchanged, Leica France contacted me directly to make excuses about this issue and told me they will clean my Q free of charge and make sure this won't happen again. So all seems good so far.

No dust yet. Some soldiers fought in the war from 1939-45 and survived. But there was clearly an issue because a lot did not.

PhotoCruiser Posted April 22, 2020 Share #28 Posted April 22, 2020 The Q i bought used had dust inside and collected more over the few months i hade her, the new Q2 obviously not but i taped the mic and speaker openings, just to be anal with this matter and particularly because i use her 99% outside and also in dry, dusty places .... One of the reasons to buy the Q2 was their statement that she is splash and dustproof, Should i find dust in the Q2 i would be very disappointed!
