Vroon Posted August 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I am generally dry pleased with my M and 35 Cron. However at sunset the camera gets defeated by the large dynamic range, and in these circumstances my Samsung S10 actually takes better pictures. It’s a controversial statement, and I am still very much trying to come to grips with the M after many years of being away from Leica. For the correct application the rendering of the M is superb. simon
Advertisement Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 Hi Vroon, Take a look here Leica vs S10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Gregm61 Posted August 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2019 (edited) "Coming to grips" is definitely what you are doing. It's you, not the camera that being defeated. The M is definitely no PHD (point here dummy) camera like the S10, but I will say the 35mm f2 Summicron is not a good performer (I would actually go so far as to call it bad) when shooting into the sun. With the M262 and various lenses, none of which are the 35mm f2 Summicron. Welcome, dear visitor! Vroon Posted August 25, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted August 25, 2019 My £4000 spent on used equipment not well spent. It’s ok in “normal light” but anything outside huge effort to produce passable results. For me at 64 focussing a huge challenge too.
Vroon Posted August 25, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted August 25, 2019 Nothing wrong with the lens. To suggest otherwise you are a fool.
Peter Kilmister Posted August 25, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 25, 2019 Sunset photos are rather passé after so many millions or billions of smartphone pictures of the setting sun have been published. Rising sun photos are still OK because most smartphone users are probably comatose at that time of day. All the same, is a photo of our nearest star really going to win a coconut? Try using the setting sun to give dimension to photos as a light source. Maybe it's just me who hates this modern trend? Perhaps I am getting old? Sunset photos could be taken with anything else. Or anything also which is static could be taken with anything. Or something which is moving. With any AF camera. Leica RF is the best for something dinamic, not the range of light or simply measured by the speed, but dinamic spectrum of human life.

I actually enjoy taking and like my pictures taken with zero human life in at all and firmly believe a leica rangefinder a great tool for landscape and seascape or sunset photography. Ps i also takes family pictures with people.

I like family pictures taken with Bessa R, just as with 5D and 50L. My digital Leica RF works sometimes for it as well Welcome, dear visitor! If you like your phone pictures - great. Have at it. The finished photograph is what matters. Anyway, good luck with your photography.
Vroon Posted August 27, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted August 27, 2019 Guys thanks for the replies. Not purchased for status, I used to shoot a lot on a iiic, and thought it would be great to try Leica digital. It is. The lens and camera are great, for the right application. I have noticed people on this forum are very brusque and even rude. It’s unnecessary. Manners don’t cost anything. Lust because you use a nice camera does not entitle you to be rude. 2

That would be me. Apologies. That said, I just get tired of the pixel-peeping and what camera is "better" than other. Point is it doesn't matter (much) which camera you use. I've been using Leicas since 1966 when I was a teenager. Leicas plus Nikons have gotten me to hell (Jonestown, Guyana) and back. Again, good luck with your photography and again, apologies for my rude behavior.

sblutter Posted September 12, 2019 Share #15 Posted September 12, 2019 If you're handy with photoshop or other software & have a tripod, you could make a composite image with 2 or more images using HDR. If sunsets are your thing pp could really help you out
