MacSpikes Posted August 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Coming from R/DMR and an M, it took me some time to find a modern system with autofocus. I opted for a Q (typ 116) and an S (006) with a 70mm lens and a Hasselblad 300mm HC (for wildlife). I can do a lot with this combo, but at the wider end I could use an extra lens for the S. I have difficulties choosing (just one). What would be a feasible option? For street photography the 28mm on the Q is sufficient, but for landscapes an interiors, a wide angle on the S would be a nice addition. Your suggestions are highly appreciated! It is however a 3.5 lens and does not come as CS version, if that matters. Maybe also have a look at the HC lenses. You seem to have the adapter. A CS version is not what I need, so that is not a problem. The f/3.5 is a bit of a bummer, but then again, the S (006) is not a very good low light camera anyway. Greg Haag Posted August 25, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 25, 2019 I am not a long term Leica user, bought the S006 about a year ago and followed up with the S007 about 3 months ago, but I primarily shoot landscapes and architecture. The 24 was the first lens I owned and I have been extremely pleased with it, I would definitely make that purchase again. I see that Rob has one for sale, I bought my 70 from him, it was in great condition and an excellent transaction. Sarnian Posted August 25, 2019 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can't afford the S 24mm so instead I set myself up with an adapted manual focus Samyang 24mm TS lens (with the tilt/shift mechanism removed). Used with the M645 adapter it gives the same 19mm FOV as the S 24mm with excellent results. A guy from Poland coverts them and they can be had for around £700 on eBay. Stuart Richardson Posted August 25, 2019 Share #11 Posted August 25, 2019 I will be the lone voice of dissent here and say that for me at least, a 24mm would be exceptionally wide...I rarely need anything wider than the 35mm. In general, I would recommend you just choose on the basis of what angle of view you feel you need...all the S wide angle lenses are very good. The guy in Poland converts them from 35mm format T/S lenses to 645 format (non-T/S) lenses. Get his Mamiya (or Contax) version and you can use them on the S system with the relevant adapter. I've uploaded 2 files to Dropbox. Both handheld snapshots with my Typ 006. I doubt the Samyang is anywhere near as good as the Leica 24mm but the price difference is 10x. One thing in the Samyang's favour - it's small and lightweight. (I should add, that I am just a hobbyist so this really does not so much apply to me, but to those for whom photography is an avocation, perhaps the extra outlay of funds for the "best" equipment makes sense, particularly when amortized over the time that they will be used). I even own two copies of this lens, one CS and one non-CS. They tend to be available second hand much more often and at cheaper prices than the 24. I was always a 28mm FF FoV shooter. 35mm on an IQ160, 28mm on an M9, Contax 35 when I first got the S, followed quickly by the S 35. I really don't get on with the 24mm FF FoV. The only S lens I never bought was the 30mm. But the S 24 changed my life. I wonder if I would like the X1D better if they had a 24 in their lineup. I am thinking of buying this lens simply becausethe the go to lens of my M9 is the 35 MM Summicron. I use it for landscape and general shooting. Is the 45 ok on the S Thanks for any thoughts. Mike.
