I understand that this lens is the same formula as the older screw mount version which has the reputation of being fairly soft in the corners. Sean's testing shows this very clearly. I recall someone posting that they have not found this to be true with this newer version. Can anyone report on their experiences with the new lens?

Those are on an R-D1 which is useless for comparing with the M8. The R-D1, being a 1.5 crop factor, doesn't use the corners which are supposedly soft on the M8. However, not having the offset microlenses that the M8 sensor has, it *adds* vignetting.

We need some M8 shots here.

Here are 3. One I shot when I first got the lens and the other two are from last night doing some shots to test it.

Shot on a very overcast day

I compared it in the corners to my Zeiss 25/2.8 which is no slouch in corner resolution even wide open. I shot a flat surface & had to move forward to get comparable image captured of course, but I was astonished how sharp the lens was in the corners at f/4

Will post samples later, but the results are pretty obvious.

On the other hand, the same test showed how weak my VC 28/1.9 lens was in the corners, expect I got a bad sample so sending it back for a replacement.

Not sure how the new VC 21/4P is so good since it's the same optical formula from a lens with a reputation for blurry corners except to say I see no reason not to get the lens assuming it's a good sample unless one needs the extra stop of the Zeiss/Leica versions.

Even when it keeps the old optical formula, Cosina could have done a lot of things with material, costing etc. all could contribute to a different end result.

Does this lens have a 'grooved' mount (like the latest Zeiss ZM lenses)?

In several hours research I simply can't find the answer!

Thank-you

Supposedly the new ones, as all newer CV lenses, have the new style groved mount.

The one I have deos not have it but then I bought it 2 years ago.
