Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!    This one is from 1934, and is the earliest that I've converted. It's my favorite out of my Eight CZJ 5cm F1.5 Sonnars. This lens was like wax paper when I bought it off Ebay for $76- no one would bid on it. About two days of work to disassemble, clean, lube, convert to LTM, and to calibrate.  Nothing more than Freshman Physics for the Math. I was a Rocket Scientist in the 1980s. Sometimes that helps on things like this. Advertisement Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Hi BrianS, Take a look here "My Russian lens focuses correctly on a Leica" - Oh no it doesn't. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
BrianS Posted October 9, 2020 Share #22  Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) I used some "Thumbnail Sized Images" in the PDF files, mostly size constraint for posting them on the host's website. These images are provided to show that the lens focuses correctly across the full range of distance. These images are from the same lens, some outing with it after working on it.  Close up at F1.5 and distance test.  Welcome, dear visitor! BrianS Posted October 9, 2020 Share #25  Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) For anyone that has Skyllaney convert a Sonnar to Leica Mount, or adjust a Jupiter-3 for use on a Leica: the focus will be accurate across the full distance range when using your Rangefinder to focus.  This particular Sonnar is from a test batch of Coated lenses. The conversion is non-destructive, and reversible. I much prefer using the lens in a Focus Mount rather than an adapter. I used a Jupiter-3 focus mount for the conversion. Welcome, dear visitor! BrianS Posted October 9, 2020 Share #26  Posted October 9, 2020 A 1950 Jupiter-3 that was an absolute basket case when I got it.  These are at F1.5, on the M9. Focus is optimized for F1.5 across the full focus range. Welcome, dear visitor! BrianS Posted October 9, 2020 Share #27  Posted October 9, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Distance shots with the same lens, Lake picture is stopped down to F4. The train is shot wide-open at F1.5. This lens has the focal length changed to the Leica standard, done by repositioning the rear triplet. The movement of the Jupiter-3 mount is 1:1 for the optics with respect to the RF cam. Welcome, dear visitor! BrianS Posted October 9, 2020 Share #28  Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) There is deviation in focal length of individual lenses. The numbers here are for the "standard" for the Zeiss/Jupiter and Leica. In reality, each lens requires a rough adjustment and then fine tuning. It is a lot of work. I'm happy that a real repair shop is now offering this service. I collected enough data by taking apart lenses, adjusting them, and rebuilding them in my RFF days- a couple hundred. Simple Freshman Physics. That I took 45 years ago. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! BrianS Posted October 9, 2020 Share #29  Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Moving the rear triplet to change focal length of the complete lens.  Offered as Proof that my Jupiter-3's focus correctly on the Leica. No modifications on the M9 or M Monochrom for this, I have about 100 lenses in Leica mount from many manufacturers. Welcome, dear visitor!
