biglouis Posted July 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a photograph I took just before the heavens opened up a couple of weekends ago. This is about the time that Britain turned into a giant boating lake. I've processed the picture two ways, attempting to create that heavy atmosphere before a cloudburst, where the light levels really drop. I can't decide if either of them are any good so your comments would be much appreciated.
Advertisement Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Hi biglouis, Take a look here Wheat before the storm v2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cocker Posted July 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2007 Louis, I like both of them - as you say they are different pictures. #1 has a very heavy feel that conveys the downpour that is brewing. #2 encourages me to explore around the frame while still capturing the mood. Photoskeptic Posted July 31, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2007 I think it would be nice to combine the sky of the first with the foreground of the second.
andybarton Posted July 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2007 The second is definitely the better of the two, IMHO. The heavy, dark foreground is a bit too much for my taste.
kuddel Posted July 31, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2007 To me it is also the second. The first one is too dark, least to me and on my screen. Regards, Andreas

Guys, thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Per the suggestion by Photoskeptic and using CS2 it is possible to create this:
Chuckcars Posted July 31, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 31, 2007 Great change with CS3, last one. I would have straightened out the horizon, however.
samwells Posted August 1, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 1, 2007 Louis - That last one is grest...retains the heaviness of the first whilst having the detail of the second. cheers: Sam
stuny Posted August 1, 2007 Share #10 Posted August 1, 2007 Big - #3 superb. #2 very good. #1 too dark, missing land details to the overall detriment of the image.
