al02052 Posted August 9, 2019 Share #1 Â Posted August 9, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have a problem that annoys me a lot: the point of focus moves by itself (I carry the Q shoulder strap) and when I point to shoot I find it out of focus and I have to bring it back manually to the center. It made me lose many good photos. I use the EVF Extended and so I can't use the double tap of the LCD. Is there any way to keep it locked at the center? Thank you very much
Advertisement Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Hi al02052, Take a look here Q: how to lock the focus point in the center?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted August 9, 2019 Share #2  Posted August 9, 2019 Though I don't know your answer the focus point moves based on pressing the four locations (N-S-E-W) on the round button  on the back right of the camera when the camera is on. Perhaps you've had the camera on while it was hanging from your shoulder, and accidentally pressed that button, kind of like "butt dialing" your phone? al02052 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Share #3 Â Posted August 9, 2019 Yes, correctly so, the pad is pressed from the belly. So how do I avoid the point of focus moving?
lstreet Posted August 9, 2019 Share #4 Â Posted August 9, 2019 Select Spot in the AF Mode menu.
al02052 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Share #5  Posted August 9, 2019 The menu shows: 1 Point (selected) or Multi Point. Spot is for metering. However moving among focus choice does not fix the issue.
lstreet Posted August 10, 2019 Share #6 Â Posted August 10, 2019 Spot in the AF Mode menu is not for metering. Â AF stands for Auto Focus.

bullmoon Posted August 12, 2019 Share #9  Posted August 12, 2019 You have to turn off the touch screen focus feature: Menu/Focusing/Touch AF - Off. Kind of annoying because if you need touch AF you have to turn it back on - I put Focusing in my Favorites. 3
al02052 Posted August 12, 2019 Author Share #10  Posted August 12, 2019 thanks, but the Touch AF it is already of because I use the 1 point AF.

Spot AF does not automatically turn off AF Touch. The two ways the focus point gets moved is inadvertently touching the screen with AF Touch ON or by inadvertently moving the point with the arrow keys - I have never had that happen where I pressed those buttons by accident as best I can tell. Since I turned AF Touch OFF, my focus point stays put - and if I do move it on purpose, a double-tap on the screen will still center it. So, it's not locked but way less likely to be moved accidentally. Edited August 12, 2019 by bullmoon
lstreet Posted August 13, 2019 Share #12  Posted August 13, 2019 Unfortunately I cannot get double tap for re-centering to work when AF Touch is OFF and EVF Extended is selected.  I guess EVF Extended turns the LCD screen off completely.  Otherwise I like EVF Extended.  I think it saves battery life since both screens go off when you are not looking in the EVF.  I also prefer to use the EVF because it has better resolution.  I have lost some pictures because the focus Spot was inadvertently moved by the direction buttons.  There does not seem to be a complete solution to this problem.  I guess I have to be a careful photographer!

Le Chef Posted January 10, 2020 Share #14 Â Posted January 10, 2020 The same issue exists with the CL. There appears to be no obvious solution. Ideally Leica would have the focus point fixed as the default, and only move if you requested it through a menu change. Can it be that hard for Leica to change this firmware instruction? 2
