nicci78 Posted October 14, 2019 Share #41  Posted October 14, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) M lenses are as small as possible. No AF, ok. But MF is easy enough with SL and CL, that it is not a problem. So do you prefer a very small but fast to very fast MF, such as Summilux-M or Noctilux-M. Or a small but quite slow lens with AF like the Sigma f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary ?

Stuart Richardson Posted October 31, 2019 Share #47 Â Posted October 31, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried it at a store and took a few shots outside etc, so I do not have an extensive test, but I got a bit of an idea. I think for my work it will not be worth it. I have the S 45mm, which is obviously dramatically bigger and does not have AF on the S1, but for my use it is better. When I tested the Sigma I was impressed by the size and build quality, as well as the AF. The image quality stopped down seems very good. But I found that I had to stop down to f5.6 or so to get the edge to edge performance I am looking for. I do a lot of night work on video, where wide open performance is helpful, so for my own use I think the 35mm or 50mm summicron SL would be a better option. If I wind up sticking with the L mount as a main system (i.e. if the S3 never comes, or comes at 20,000 plus euros), then I will look into getting one. For now the S 45mm, though massive, will be my choice.

DI1 Posted November 4, 2019 Share #50  Posted November 4, 2019 Just posted a few more examples in the SL image thread. I don’t want to double post. The lens is really performing wonderfully for me. The auto focus is quick and I would not have been able to grab some of the shots without it!
