Back on the Omotesando street, quite nearby, is a shop named Kiddy Land, six floors of toys etc., a paradise for children, a nightmare for parents! Left side of it, was Shakey's Pizza parlour, I remember, the All-You-Can Eat-Lunch was in those days 600Y, around 5$. We ate them into the deep red figures! Please see on the right side the "Cafe de  Rope", I come to it soon again.

Kiddy Land still exists, the shop front looks different after all the years, Shakey's Pizza is gone,. also the Cafe de Rope - replaced by a restaurant of shiny glass, steel and concrete.

Coming back to the Cafe de Rope, in the past it looked that way, somehow like a make shift tent, but providing a nice atmosphere, we always enjoyed being there.

Indeed, the tent is gone, now we got a modern building with a mirror faced - it even shows me, taking this shot - ... Have a look into the street right hand side , windows etc., almost unchanged.

My sentence above should read "with a mirror facade", seems, the auto spell check fooled me and i did not notice...

Let's go on with old and new, here is the Isetan Department store in Shinjuku, at the intersection of the Shinjuku Dori with the Meiji Dori, it is an interesting building with many Art Deco elements. 30 years ago, the corner looked like an art exhibition, with many canvasses and colorful paintings. I don't remember the background of this display, but it looked great!

Regrettably, today, no arts, the corner is hidden under tarpoulins, I guess, some construction work is going on.

At Ginza, the main shopping district, the tower shaped San-ai building at the Ginza crossing  is famous (I don't know why, its just a glass tower...), at least, at night, it looks impressive...

Well, apart from night view vs day, not much has changed, Mitsubishi Electric got replaced by Ricoh,  they certainly paid more..., about the fashion shops inside I can't comment, anyhow, it is landmark in Tokyo.

But, also minor details  changed over the years. This simple photo shoes the backstreet door of the "Sumire" (written in Katakana) souvenir shop at Nakamise, Asakusa, completely held in red. Just an entrance.

Now, the got some renovation, a new door, electricity meters, rolling shutters, a mail box, the fire distinguisher is gone. The "Sumire" name is the same, at the old photo it was hand brushed with paint, now, it looks like a stencil, cloned.

In vicinity of the Shibuya station is a small alley, squeezed between the railway tracks and the shops, with many drinking places and lovely lanterns

The alley still exits, but the days are counted, many shops are closed already and the demolition teams wait around the corner.

Probably you know the story of the famous dog named "Hachiko", it waited every afternoon at Shibuya station for its master to return from work at an university. Some day the professor passed away while working, but the dog continued for around 10 years to wait at the station, daily. To remember this fine dog, it got a bronze statue many years ago, see the photo (sorry for the low quality). The place is famous to meet with friends - see you at Hachiko!

The coming photo, which I personally like very much due to its atmosphere was taken end of the eighties at the famous Tsukiji fish marker, around 5am, just after the tuna auctions. I posted this photo before in another section of the forum, the scan shows scratches and dust, but the atmosphere can be seen, can be felt.

Unfortunately, but also understandably, the entire Tsukiji fish market area with its auction places and processing halls got demolished recently, the place was too precious for a fish market, soon, high rising office buildings will be built there. The fish market found a new home a few kilometers east in Toyosu and it will be almost impossible to go there as a visitor.
