MikeD70 Posted July 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) While formatting some older SD cards, one failed to eject properly. I got hold of the edge and was able to pull the thing out, didn't notice anything wrong with the card, and tried to insert another. No go, the card would not seat. Grabbed a small light, and in the side of the slot, i could see what looked like the little card lock slide, sticking out of the track. Checked the card, sure enough, it was that little plastic slide. Called my dealer, took it in, they sent it off to Chicago for replacement, and while there, a good "check & clean". Under warranty, should have it back in about two weeks. Salesman told me that this is the third case of the same problem they had seen lately, although, the other two were M's, I think he said. Just thought I'd post this bit of information for reference. Hindsight, I probably should have left the card in there, but then, who knows. At least it will come back new. Reminded me of the old days of digital, bent pins on a compact flash/micro-drive slot, ancient history.

Leica Guy Posted July 19, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 19, 2019 I’ve had SD cards “hang up” a couple times. I was able to carefully jiggle and move them around and ultimately remove them with no damage. Your point is a good one. It does take extra care sometimes if they don’t immediately pop out.
JimBo Posted July 19, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2019 Maybe a little super glue is in order just to keep the tab secure. I’ve never needed to lock an SD card.
MikeD70 Posted July 19, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted July 19, 2019 "Maybe a little super glue is in order just to keep the tab secure. I’ve never needed to lock an SD card." That slide lock should be an option, surely with the millions of cards produced, the manufacturers would save money by eliminating that darn thing.
bullmoon Posted July 21, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 21, 2019 New Sony card - no card lock. I'm glad of that. When I first realized it, I though it had torn off too!
MikeD70 Posted July 24, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted July 24, 2019 Well the good news on this was, got the camera back already, very quick turn-around from Leica/Chicago. " From the ticket, replaced card slot, circuit board, cleaned/check camera and sensor, so, kinda of like getting a new camera back. All working fine.
