Chuck Albertson Posted July 18, 2019 Share #2 Â Posted July 18, 2019 There has been a severe shortage since the Q2 (which uses the same batt) was introduced. You might monitor the relevant threads in this and the Q2 forum and see if any appear.

Chuck Albertson Posted July 18, 2019 Share #4 Â Posted July 18, 2019 If you're near London, this dealer https://apertureleica.com/product/new/leica-sl/leica-sl-accessories/leica-sl-battery-bp-scl4/ says they have stock.

Thanks!   Based on my investigation the shortage is pretty much world wide. This battery situation reflects very poorly on Leica as a company. It's one thing to be late with the introduction of new lens for the SL which in an of itself is a problem if one is marketing the camera as a "professional" system but to not have spare battery on hand with that positioning is beyond the pale. Should Leica not have anticipated the fact that a successor to their most popular camera (the Q) might put a strain on the supply of batteries especially since it uses the same battery as one of their flagship products the SL? There simply is no excuse. Turning back to the practical issue of actually getting the battery. I have orders with two different dealers ( pre paid). Unless you get lucky and are able to get one from above suggested dealer or elsewhere would suggest doing same because once they re appear I suspect they will all be gone almost instantly. ru2far2c Posted July 19, 2019 Share #6  Posted July 19, 2019 When I purchased my SL in Munich in mid June they said that were hoping to have stock by mid July. I'm still looking for at least one extra. I read either here or somewhere else that someone ordered one from B&H and took 45 plus to get.
3meter Posted July 19, 2019 Author Share #7  Posted July 19, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the info guys. I have been in contact with ABT, a large retailer, and what you have said regarding the Q competing with SL for batteries is true. Between this issue and the non adjustable dark viewfinder for glasses wearers in bright light issue, I am becoming disenchanted with the SL and Leica.

m9photo Posted July 28, 2019 Share #10 Â Posted July 28, 2019 Why there's no after market option on this battery? is it because it's a small market of SL?
3meter Posted July 28, 2019 Author Share #11  Posted July 28, 2019 The dealers say that it is because the new Q2 uses the same battery. The good news is that they are back in stock and mine is on its way now from ABT. At an initial list price of $7500, I am sure that it is a small market. It is also not an M design which makes it "love it or leave it" controversial. With the new SL2 on the horizon, I was able to get mine mint with good bidding on EBay for $2900. To me at that price it's well worth it. But no way will I pay $7500 or more for the new SL2.! Lol.
