Canon 50mm 1.4 and infinity focusing

Hi all,

 

I’ve been shooting the last few months with a Canon 50mm 1.4 ltm with adaptor on my M9, and getting some gorgeous results out of it. However the other day I noticed that the lens was not focusing on infinity, or at least that the lens reached infinity before the rangefinder achieved complete alignment. The camera has no problem focusing on infinity with my 35mm summarit. Is it possible that this suddenly happened (I don’t remember bumping the lens but it’s possible of course) or is it that I’m mad and didn’t notice that the camera wasn’t previously focusing spot on? I’ve done test shots but really struggle to see if it’s achieving critical focus. It doesn’t feel that focus is off all the way through the range, I’ve been getting good results with the lens since noticing this problem.

may it be the adapter ?

in my experience, some LTM to M adapters don't have the right required thickness of 1.00 mm .

Even with one of my Leitz adapter, some decades of use decreased it's thickness (measured 0.98 mm) and misfocus with some LTM lenses.

The good thing is when properly "adapted" (even with not very good adapter) the focussing coupling between lens and body is fine,

that's why you have good results at close range.

I guess that seems most likely - just weird that either it happened relatively suddenly or I simply didn’t notice the failure to align at infinity, given how much I’ve shot with it in recent months. I’ll pick up a new adaptor and test it.
