A Godox 860II arrived today.

Well built, comes with a big rechargable battery and a bunch of accessories, including a remote trigger. All for $281. And the results... perfect TTL metering straight out of the box. Also works with my Hasselblad X1D.

One of the things I've missed most about my Nikon setup was the speedlights... which always exposed bang on with minimal fidding. To me, the Leica flash implementation was very weak, and drastically overpriced.  Initial impressions of the Godox are that it is just as good as the Nikon, with better accessories and cross-platform compatibility and at a fraction of the cost.

I haven't fiddled with the wireless yet.

It looks like the fix is in on OEM flash units.

If you're as S1R owner do yourself a favour and pickup a Godox... and return to the world of easy, fuss-free and well-metered TTL flash after the years of wandering in the wilderness with Leica!

I also have good experiences with the Godox 860II for my S1R but switched to the V1 (Olympus) because this version can also rotate.

Is TTL possible with the X1D? My assumtion was that you have to use the Nikon version of the Godox for this.

I think it is manual only on the X1D, but it works and triggers.

Sorry for my inexperience with flash: will this work with my Leica SL and adapted manual aperture lenses?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I’m don’t think so. It’s designed for Panasonic.

The Godox will almost certainly work in manual mode (center pin of the flash triggers it). But no TTL or HSS.  Leica has its own flash protocol.

Leica's new remote trigger will, in some cases, trigger Nissin flashes (Leica's new flash that is the companion of the trigger is a rebadged Nissin, with Leica-specific firmware) in full TTL mode (but I am uncertain about HSS since I never use it).  I have used a variety of third party flashes (like Profoto's A1) on camera for Leica cameras but only in manual mode. But I have not found any third party flashes that will work in TTL mode on camera.

The S1 and S1R being talked about here don’t use Leica’s flash protocol. They use the 4/3 protocols shared by Panasonic and Olympus.\\

And the Godox/Flashpoint work well on the SR1.
