cnj Posted July 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I "finally" picked-up my Q2 (I realize many are still waiting; but it feels especially long having dealt with FedEx giving me conflicting information about where it was going). As one does with a modern camera, I started going through the menus first. When I got through to "Camera Information" on the last screen, the spinning icon appeared for a while, and then I got an odd gray screen with barely legible light-green text telling me to turn the camera off and back on. The switch wasn't being recognized so I pulled the battery, and haven't had the issue repeat. I'm curious how common this is? The real-time-clock kept the time, but all other settings got lost at that point, so I went through the configuration again (is the only way to get out of the initial configuration menu to depress the shutter? It seems like a special instance of the menu). This morning the camera showed a "Welcome to the Leica Q2" animation which took a very long time, in my opinion, when I wanted to use the camera. I don't *recall* seeing this the other night. Subsequently turning the camera on was quicker, but feels slower than my X2 (potentially because it's not extending the lens like the X2, so I don't mind the boot time if I mechanically can't take a picture yet). Does anyone know more about the welcome animation? Is this something that I'll keep seeing if it does a deep shutdown? Anybody else seeing the gray screen? Other odd software quirks? Final note, now that I can access the information sub-menu, I noticed that many of the licenses, including the first one, don't actually indicate what software the copyright notice covers. I was very confused why Khronos Group, and not Leica AG seemed to be claiming copyright of the camera firmware before realizing there were 25 more copyright notices they simply stuffed in the sub-menu. Has anyone requested Leica's modifications to the Linux kernel or hooked it up to a serial console

I thought I enabled something about auto-updating firmware in the iOS app, but honestly I don't remember the setting and I can't find it in the PDF version of the manual on Leica's site for the camera (admittedly, I just found out about its existence, a little miffed there was only a quick-start guide in the box). Maybe that explains the odd behaviour; neither the app nor camera indicated it was about to, or had, update the firmware though. *shrug*
TK! Posted July 6, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2019 Your experience sounds weird. And firmware update does not really make sense as there is just the initial version. Something must have gone wrong in your case. boot time is very short on the q2 - tk
sturkel Posted July 6, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2019 You are having some strange issues. No animation here boots in a sec or two. I would do a factory reset and start over in your settings. Good luck keep us posted.
