This is preserved Wallasey Corporation Motors No1, the very first production Leyland Atlantean bus to enter service with any operator in the United Kingdom, in 1958.  This example had bodywork by Metro-Cammell, and Wallasey ultimately had a fleet of 30 of these buses, which were transferred to Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive on its formation in 1969.  Some survived in service until the late 1970s.

The Atlantean was revolutionary in its day; rear-engined with a front entrance, and was thus the forerunner of a bus layout still seen on our roads today.
