taxal67 Posted June 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M10, often I get an orange rectangle in the centre focusing box, with either no double image or a faint one. Then, after a few seconds (seems to vary) the rectangle pops clear and you can bring the two images together, to focus. What is going on here? Seems to happen with lenses using the manual 6bit coding? A Leica 21mm /2.8 and Zeiss 35/2. Is that the reason for the delay?

That's likely your finger in front of the rangefinder

adan Posted June 28, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) This is the grip for a Leica M, especially with the wide-angles (21 and 35). Right hand grips edge of camera and touches shutter button - left hand in an "L" with thumb up the side and index finger in/on the focus tab. It's why the focus tabs exist. With longer lenses (50mm+) you can move the left hand so the thumb and index fingertip grip the focus ring from beneath. See my avatar (with a 135mm) <<<<<<< 50's come with or without the focus tab, depending on era, so you can use either - depending. I personally keep the exact same grip for vertical shots, and just rotate the camera 90° (right hand going up). Keeps hands well clear of the RF windows. https://photothisandthat.co.uk/2010/11/14/leica-m9-titanium/leica-m9-titanium-290/ Edited June 28, 2019 by adan
Gelatino Posted June 28, 2019 Share #7 Posted June 28, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Orange? If it's the color of your finger, it may be due to nicotin effect🤔; if so I would suggest you to stop smoking in addition to modifie the grip for your M.
