Dear Community,

I would like to hear from you if there is anything which annoys you about your Leica Q(2). For me there are two things that annoy me a lot:

1) It has no tiltable Screen. With a 28mm lens you can do great close-ground shots which sometimes give a significantly more interesting perspective as taken from the height of the eye. It is said that taking photos with the Q is a very unique experience. I agree with that. Usually in a very positive meaning of uniqueness. But I always feel like an idiot crawling at the ground with a 5000 EUR camera whereas almost every other photographer can comfortably use their tilting screen.

2) It is 2019! It has no HDMI or USB input. This also makes it impossible to connect with an external Display (except for Wifi) and other things.

Yes, it is a Leica. Yes, it is puristic in some points. However, being a Leica is not an "excuse" or "explanation" for everything. Other brands would face lots of critics ans jokes about that.

Do I love the Q anyway? Yes Of course!

No tilt screen helps keep the size of the body down. What makes shooting like you described more difficult than it has to be is the focus point being white. It's impossible to see, particularly when viewing the screen at such a dramatic angle.

Just received my Q2 wednesday and it is my first Leica so its the most perfect thing I have held (sorry kids). 😃

However, being objective and taking my blinders off, I have been annoyed at a few software aspects. Mainly setting up my custom profiles. It was a bit absurd that I needed to customize the date and time format and save it for each profile.

Are you sure? With the Q and other digital cameras setting the date and time/format and actual is a one-off basic part of setting up the camera. Once set and there are no power problems, the set-up remains.

1. Roaming focus point, likely issue with touching screen when positioning cam to use EVF so need a way to turn this off.

2. Removal of the dedicated video button leading to the poor swipe implementation .

3. USB charging would have been a plus but not a big problem for me.

Not so annoying with the Q original. 😄

Yes, had to set them up for each of my six profiles.

Haven't got a Q or Q2 (yet, and still a maybe) but the way I deal with this with the SL and CL is:

  1. set the camera to defaults
  2. do all the basic, general settings (date format, etc) and save that as User 1
  3. modify that setup for whatever needs to be different, save that as User2
  4. set to User1 or User2 and then modify, save that as User3
  5. repeat until all slots are used, etc

I would assume the same technique works with the Q/Q2...? The logic of the settings customization controls seems the same from the user manual.

The lack of a tiltable screen doesn't mean much to me. When I use the CL in awkward positions that I can't get my eye behind the viewfinder or LCD properly, I set it up on a stand or whatever and do the framing and control with the Leica FOTOs app on my iPhone. If I had any AF lenses I could do the focusing with the touch screen, but I only use manual focus lenses from R and M cameras so I set those up before I position the camera.

The Leica FOTOS app.

+1. The FOTOS App is a big disappointment. Quirky and buggy. I wish for a simple cable connection to the shutter button or an electronic release to the non-existent USB plug.

More significantly, I wish one could move the focus point and then have manual focus magnify that area when zoomed. It would be dramatically more useful especially for macro photography. No more center camera on subject, focus, then move the camera for best composition.

Had mine for a few weeks. Mostly it is excellent but niggles are -

No way to use a shutter cable

It is too easy to move the focus point without intending to

I find the shutter release buttonn a little too stiff

My biggest gripe with the Q2 is that the shutter speed dial is too easily jostled out of the "A" position.  After a day's worth of shooting in what I thought was aperture priority, upon import to LR I discover that the dial moved to 1/2000...
