Tarpontime Posted June 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to the Q owner's manual a "memory card" appears on the desktop when the Q is connected to my Mac. When I connect the Q nothing appears on my desktop. I have downloaded files to iPhoto but really want the images grouped together by download into the main "Pictures" folder (ala Canon's file management system). Anyone out there that can suggest how to download these files for workflow? Thanks,
Advertisement Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Hi Tarpontime, Take a look here Leica Q-P File Transfer to Mac (ver 10.14.5). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
prk60091 Posted June 17, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2019 i think if you have iPhoto/ iPhotostream enabled nothing gets put into pictures- apple assumes you want everything to go into iPhoto...
marchyman Posted June 17, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2019 Best, IMHO, is to use a card reader -- you'll get much faster transfer speeds than using the camera. My Mac has an SD slot built in, but I use a USB 3 card reader because it is easier to access it than reaching around to the back of the mac.
Leica Guy Posted June 17, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2019 I also use a card reader. In my case a USB-C reader which is very fast. The Q2 has no way to connect the camera to the iMac.

(my SD slot has a permanent card in it for time machine backup) no reader needed

Once inserted into my front-facing card reader an icon named "Leica DSC" appears on the desktop of my circa 2017 iMac. I find reaching around the back of my iMac a nuisance so I use a Satechi Type-C Clamp Hub Pro. https://satechi.net/collections/hubs-docks/products/aluminum-type-c-clamp-hub-pro

Coppereye1960 Posted July 24, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 24, 2019 I went to a local town fair a few years ago. I tend to go without camera because the local Camera club do not consider a "Leica" to be a working camera and anyone who has one has more money. than sense as the latest "SonySungCan" with a kit lens is just as good. I appreciate that there are some superb cameras and kit lenses about - I remember the original Canon nifty fifty for about £50 new. The relevance to this thread was a conversation I overheard between two members "Of course you know he's not a proper photographer you know" said member number one "why?" said the second. "Because he connects directly to his camera to download his images rather than using a card reader!" The second gasped "You're joking typical amateur!" Now I'm not suggesting you guys are taking the same view but the Fotos app has proved useful when I'm shooting events - I can connect wirelessly to the iPad and show the client a few images. Then again as soon as I get home the cards go into the card reader to be backed up to disk - wireless is nice but its slow by comparison.

It is rather telling how the human often judges anyone different than them to be inferior. FOTOS has its place and one is exactly how you are using it. My experience is it’s pretty slow to download photos, but certainly select ones can be done that way and viewed on a much larger screen. Good job! I mostly wish Leica would up there game and deliver it operating at a higher reliability and functionality. Too many folks are having difficulties simply connecting. Focusing is problematic and it does not support manual focusing which is a big limitation. The latest release is better, so hopefully they’ll continue making it into a solid product. I sure hope so. Judging a photograph(er) by the gear is completely stupid.
