I wonder whether others are faced with the same problem as I. When in LR 6.14 I try to process/export a Leica Q2 (DNGfile) as a JPG to be used for different puposes. I simply end up with the same DNG-file and not with a JPG-file, and the latter is anything but sharp....but "big" in filesize...It seems that Leica is no longer supporting any processing of its camera-files in LR version 6.14, or are there other explanations. Any feed back in this regard would be most appreciated+

I think this is an Adobe issue, not Leica.  Is LR 6.14 the latest version?  If not it may be that Adobe is no lo longer updating for new cameras and you may new a newer LR.

Well, I gave up a long time ago and went with the $10/mo subscription from Adobe. The latest PS and LR for the same cost as 2-3 drinks at Starbucks. I always have the latest features and I’ve been a LR user since beta so I’ve grown with it. I do keep all my files in the original camera format and not Adobe’s DNG. That gives me the option of switching to a different post processing sw should I sour on Adobe. I know there are plenty of folks who object to the subscription. I decided its a small compromise compared to so many life decisions that have no good alternatives. Good luck.

I also enjoy the ability to process or view my images anywhere on any computer via the adobe cloud. As far as storage it is easy fast and fairly cost effective. All things to be considered.

Thanks a lot to both of you for your swift coming back. Let me make myself a bit more clear, in my case it’s not basically a money question, although the subscription method applied by Adobe is not “my cup of tea”. However, with my question raised I rather went for a verification as to whether Adobe in fact HAS definitely said goodbye to any editing of Q2 files within its specific LR version 6.14. I my case in the said LR-version I repeatedly tried to edit such Q2 files, but when exporting the files as JPG’s they seemed to REMAIN DNG’s...given this fact I turned to “Luminar” which I had bought time ago, and everything went smoothless...I would still be grateful for any feedback from LR-users having had similar experience with Q2 files....THANKS!

@oeksen397

I have successfully exported an "edited" DNG file as a Jpeg in LR 6.14. However, the file size is a lot smaller that I thought it would be (about 3.5MB).

When you export the file what name do you give it in the "export window" ?

My files do have the suffix "jpg" stated in he export window

Adobe hasn't updated version 6 in a long while.  How could they remove Q2 support from a product that was released before the camera was invented?  How could they remove even accidental support without some kind of update?

If the slider is set to 100 then the jpeg file is about 25MB

Look at the image in pixel peeping mode.  Can you tell the difference between an image at 80 and one at 100?  I usually can.   How about 85 and 100?  I usually can't.   Because of that I don't export images with the quality slider greater than 85.  All it does is waste disk space.   I might export at a higher quality if I expected a need to re-edit the jpeg.  However, that is quite unlikely.  I'd re-edit the raw and create a new jpeg.

Hmm. I don't know what the problem you're facing is. I have a couple of Q2 DNG files I made at the Leica Store San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. I added one to LR v6.14 and output it to a full resolution JPEG @ 75 on the quality scale. It did the job exactly as I expected ... See file info panels attached.

I usually have the JPEG quality set to about 75 as it seems almost indistinguishable from 100 to my eye. I output another copy at 100 and it's 31.5 MBytes in size. A 3x reduction in size for no evident degradation seems worth it to me. :)
