Mine is 498xxx bought in April 2018. No rattle or birdie song but I am rather jealous of the later.

Photon42 Posted August 21, 2019 Share #42  Posted August 21, 2019 My squarely 15 yo MP does not do any sound when shaken, as long as it does not slide off hands ...  What a nice piece of engineering and design it is.

Just want to resolve this before the Brexit. Sorry, it didn't seem clear to me at least if there was any problem with the camera aside from it making a rattling noise. The 'ISO dial repair' is now fixed and the camera works OK? I imagine the repair you had done carries some type of warranty if a mechanical problem did develop. Good luck with the camera.
Paulus Posted September 6, 2019 Share #44  Posted September 6, 2019 (edited) Am 10.6.2019 um 18:20 schrieb leoskkang: My question to all MP users is: Is it normal for an MP to make any noise when shaken? My MP is making rattling noise when shaken. There are two kinds. One is dull sound that a specific part in the body is not fixed and another is lighter sound that something like a small metal piece is moving around in the body. I contacted Leica Mayfair and they sent the body to Wetzlar. Wetzlar replied as follows: "The noise we can hear when slightly shaking the camera is to the release lever of the braking mechanism". They also noted that the camera seemed to be woking within factory tolerances. What I do not understand is that my camera was not making such noise when I bought it and although it works fine I do not like this rattling noise and I do not expect such quality from Leica M camera. I complained to Mayfair again and then Wetzlar accepted to get the camera returned for another inspection. And I got an email for Mayfair saying that "Your camera just came back and we identified the source of the rattle, which we could fix with a new part we received from the factory". I just received the camera and it still makes rattling noise.   No it's not, only if you throw it on the grond hard enough. But the times I did this, there wasn't a sound to heard afterwards. see:    Edited September 6, 2019 by Paulus
