Color Cast

all images from my M8 have a severe color cast. This is with all lenses that I use.

I have to color correct each image in whatever pp s/w, or I have to manually set the kelvin temp.is this normal?

 

Do you folks always shoot raw or have you found something else for jpgs too!

it might be a wb balance problem, though not sure, maybe some example would help.

 

i shoot only in raw.

In my images I find that most are fine or close, and a few are visibly quite off. If you have a colour cast in *all* your images, something is wrong. What WB mode do you have set in the camera? What firmware version do you use? Have you got a colour-managed monitor to view the results on? I shoot only raw.

here is an image of a date-palm ( what else eh! ) shot recently. maybe this could provide

some indication.

 

 

i tried awb,daylight,cloudy and kelvin. s/w version is 1.102. this happens in all jpgs.

i am taking a break from raw, but shall revert to it if all else fails.

It looks rather yellow, but then again, there is really nothing in the scene which is neutral, and which the M8 could use to guess the correct value. If you live in a place where there is a strong colour cast in the light, and very little neutral, then you might have a problem. I don't know what the solution would be. If your info is correct, and you live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, then the sky is probably very blue most of the time, and the shadows will then have a yellow cast (opposite colours in the colour wheel). It may be that the Daylight setting in the WB menu is more tuned to European blue skies. In that case, I expect you will have to either shoot raw and fix it later, or find the correct Kelvin degree for your location.

Carsten, thanks for your reply. I do indeed live in Riyadh. Correct again, either a blue

cast or a heavy yellowish cast ( with a greenish sprinkled in for good measure ).

 

I have so far managed to set the color temp manually.

I'll suggest to use RAW, and then use the excellent light temperature correction of Adobe Lightroom: I suppose that after some trials you can also setup a profile into M8 with a proper °K and use it as standard.

fursan, are you shooting with UV/IR filters? If you're shooting in bright daylight, the yellow/green cast on the leaves could be IR contamination; the sun puts out a lot of IR.
