Danielnotnow Posted May 20, 2020 Share #861 Posted May 20, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting accident. On my hike to Avila Beach the split ring on my Rock and Roll strap worked it’s way loose from the lug and the M10 P and Noctilux fell from my shoulder to the concrete. The body was wearing the Leica leather half case and the only physical damage I could see was a slight ding to the Noctilux lens hood. But the rangefinder had been knocked out of kilter in the vertical plane. Reading about it in this forum when I got home, I was able to unscrew the cover screw and adjust the rangefinder back to alignment with an Allen wrench; arthritic hands, lack of mechanical skill not withstanding. Hooray!

Hooray! A number of years ago I was hiking on the volcanos west of Albuquerque where we lived at the time. A large animal crossed in front of me and I fell down one of the volcanos. I was carrying my M9 with my Noctilux .95 mounted. I landed on the camera and lens. The M9 seemed to have survived but the Noctilux was a bit banged up… the pull out shade was banged up and dented and the lens had some scratches. I sent the lens in to Leica for repair, fully expecting to pay for the damage I caused. Leica informed me that this was the first time a lens had been sent in for repair that had been damaged in a fall on a volcano and the repair charges were waived. Needless to say I was very grateful for the gratis repair and my Noctilux was returned in seemingly new condition. Yeah Leica!

Correct. When looking at an out of focus image in the rangefinder in landscape orientation the right hand image was quite a bit above the left hand image making it difficult to judge when they were aligned left to right. The image didn’t “pop” when focus was hit.

I’m sorry, I had a bunch of loose unmarked ones, I tried them all until I found one that fit properly. But my reading suggests a 2 or 2.5mm. I take it you are having this problem with your rangefinder? I also got the impression this process was more difficult with M models before the 10. best wishes, daniel

Hooray! Terrifying! Had a Rock and Roll strap's stitching at the split ring break and unravel after only a week of use nearly dropping my entire rig (not such a fancy one) to the ground. Heart in toes moments. Glad you seemed to have escaped unscathed. Regards.

Glad you seemed to have escaped unscathed. Regards. Yikes! Back to the Barton 1972 strap here. Also ordered some triangular split “rings” to try out. Reminds of a dream I used to have of sitting on the toilet reading my iPad. In flushing and pulling my pants up, my iPhone would slip out my pocket land on the iPad, cracking its screen, then bounce off the iPad into the toilet bowl just as the flush was consummated. I worry about ironic disasters. best, daniel
