ron777 Posted May 16, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering the purchase of a Q2 and wonder if it has the same limitations as the SL as it pertains to the EVF. For example, the SL does not allow one to visualize the histogram and focus peaking and or a grid on the same EVF screen, does the Q2 have this same limitation? Thank you in advance. Guest Posted May 16, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 16, 2019 No. You can see the histogram in the viewfinder.

paul.bridges.3388 Posted May 16, 2019 Share #4 Posted May 16, 2019 No: the histogram is lost when EVF is magnified.

ron777 Posted May 16, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) Ok, now I am confused. Allow me to rephrase. Can you have the histogram and focus peaking visible at the same time in the EVF? Edited May 16, 2019 by ron777

Can you have the histogram and focus peaking visible at the same time in the EVF? Not on mine, no. It magnifies to show peaking and the EVF is cleared of information. And, with that, the histogram is lost.
ron777 Posted May 17, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted May 17, 2019 Thank you, looks the Q2 has Inherited the same issues I had with the SL’s EVF and was one of the several reasons that I’d sold it. But thank you for saving me $5,000, as I will not be purchasing a Q2.
4peterse Posted May 17, 2019 Share #9 Posted May 17, 2019 There are two focus peaking modes: magnified and "normal". In the normal view, it just doesn't magnify, but contrast edges get highlighted as usual. In the normal mode, the histogram is visible.

ron777 Posted May 17, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) Thanks for the replies, but the EVF dimming cited in another post is enough to convince me that Leica has employed technology similar to or the equivalent of that which they had employed in the SL. And while in general, the SL’s EVF is quite good, it has a dimming problem that materializes in certain, bright lighting situations that can make focusing and or framing all but impossible. Buying another camera with the same potential is a no go for me. I should add, that I have never encountered the dimming issue with any of my other mirrorless cameras such as Panasonic S1R, Sony a7riii,Olympus and Fuji GFX. btw, all of the aforementioned cameras permit the presence of a multitude of focusing, framing and exposure aids simultaneously in the EVF. Looks like another brand is going to suite you better..........I find the Q2 and amazing tool. Neil
ron777 Posted May 18, 2019 Author Share #15 Posted May 18, 2019 (edited) Yes, of course, and I have already transitioned to the Panasonic S1R, while maintaining my SL lenses. As for the Q2, my interest was precipitated by its size but it’s limitations in regards to my personal needs and my experience with the SL have made it a no go.
