leicanewb Posted May 6, 2019 Share #1 Â Posted May 6, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, long time lurker first time posting. Â I have a CL with the 28 Summicron. Im set in manual mode and I have my aperture set to f/2 but depending on what I focus on it will bump up the aperture to 2.2, 2.5 or 2.5 and won't let me turn it back down to 2.0. I've looked around and read the manual up and down and can't seem to find why this is happening or how to prevent it from happening. Any one know what's going on? ramarren Posted May 6, 2019 Share #2  Posted May 6, 2019 At close focus distances less than 1m, Leica has often closed down the maximum aperture to approximately f/2.5 to 2.8 on several lenses in this class (on the X, T/TL/CL, and Q series cameras) to preserve the lenses' best performance. This is normal and produces the best possible image quality from the lens.
gotium Posted May 7, 2019 Share #3  Posted May 7, 2019 You mean the 23 cron? Isn’t that giving you aperture recalculated because of the increased focal length for close objects, as the lens extends further away from the sensor?
tommonego@gmail.com Posted May 8, 2019 Share #4  Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) At its closest focusing distance the 23mm will register as f2.8 if set to f2.    Edited May 8, 2019 by tommonego@gmail.com
