At Last Sunday's Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run https://stiltoncheeserun.webs.com  cars arrived throughout the day, parking outside The Bell Inn in Stilton (UK) on the former Great North Road. This year the variety of cars seen was more surprising than in in previous years and included this charismatic 1933 Mercedes 290 4 Door Cabriolet powered by a 6 cylinder 2867cc side valve engine and restored by the owner who'd driven to Stilton with his son and daughter-in-law. The owner advised that the RHD car was specially built for a German consul in Tanzania - but presumably in 1933 the consulate may have been in Dar es Salaam, Tanganyika … in  the former German East Africa? More research required. The car was 'the star of the show' for me because it did not appear 'over-restored' - unlike some of the auction houses' recent Mercedes 290 offerings.

This is the car arriving after turning from Church Street into High Street Stilton … formerly called The Great North Road before the A1 / A1M was constructed. Owner driving and son and daughter-in-law passengers.

Leica Forum member John Dodkins admiring the Mercedes 290 … John was videoing cars arriving. John often uses a Leitz 35/3.5 Summaron on his Canon 5D Mk III when videoing (but not in this instance).  Owner (wearing cap) and son chatting in background.

Happy looking owner, son and daughter-in-law homeward bound after their enjoyable Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run … it's a charity event … cars arriving and departing throughout the day.

Hope you enjoyed the Mercedes 290 4 Door Cabriolet photos … all taken using a Leica SL 601 / 1971 vintage Canon FD SSC Breechblock 35/2 'Concave' … the lens with a thorium glass element ... the most sought after of all the FD 35/2 models.

More photos of other interesting cars seen at last Sundays Stilton Run will be posted soon in another thread .

Best wishes
