amorteguy Posted July 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any leads on a 35 f/2 Summicron? I am looking for a specific version: an 8 element original model in silver, not with eyes, also not Canadian only Leitz. I have been searching for weeks and none have been found (except an overpriced example for an eBay Buy-It-Now of $2600.) There is one on eBay right now, but it is a little too beat up for my liking. I am willing to pay a reasonable premium for a good condition lens if I can just find one! Any leads would be helpful and very much appreciated. Advertisement Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Hi amorteguy, Take a look here 35 Summicron wanted - any leads?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted July 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2007 You can see one for sale at www.leicashop.at : one of the best dealer in Europe; it's like you are searching for: 1st type 8 elements, chrome, ungoggled; it has an excptionally early number. Price is good, because conditions are not: see their description (they are very serious and precise in this). As you have experienced, it's anyway a rare item... I have no advice for you about buying or not... I am a collector of Leitz lenses and love a lot to have variants of a certain lens (I have 4 Summicrons 35, included this kind) and do not look for top conditions (otherwise I couldn't have put together my collection... $ $...), but I also hate SCRATCHES... leitz_not_leica Posted July 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 25, 2007 These lenses were made for 12-years, so they aren't that rare. I bought one for $400CDN in '92 and still use it as my favorite lens, and another in an entire outfit off eBay, and sold it for a mint to someone in Japan, both Wetzler. One must just keep a sharp eye open.

Thanks for the lead. I sent them an email asking for a more detailed description of the scratches. I want this to as a user not to sit on a shelf, so the glass is the most important thing. Thanks again.
luigi bertolotti Posted July 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2007 Thanks for the lead. I sent them an email asking for a more detailed description of the scratches. I want this to as a user not to sit on a shelf, so the glass is the most important thing. Thanks again. If it's for use, I can tell you that my one (unscratched) is very good on M8... and, with my surprise I found it focuses better than the newer 6 elements... But I do not pretend to draw a line... thi focus issue is so strange and casual.. There are tech shops that can adjust scratches... here in the forum a pair was mentioned. And, Guy, it is SO nice on a chrome M8...
