Not unlike a wristwatch that needs to be re-sealed occasionally to maintain water resistance, it's not surprising that a camera would require the same sort of maintenance. Does Leica perform this service on it's weather sealed cameras? I'm not privy to Leica's methodology for weather sealing but several other persons have speculated that the Q2 attains its (limited) IP52 weather sealing with a combination of internal gaskets/o-rings and an external topical treatment. Presumably it's the external treatment that would wear off first due to being more exposed to the elements as well as body oils from usual handling. I can't imagine Leica not having replacement seals. The rub is that a user isn't likely to know that his Q2 is no longer moisture sealed until the camera fails. As we all know the failure will most certainly occur after the warranty period has ended! Sign me up for a spray bottle of the Leica branded water seal product. I'll reapply it at the same time I wax my Barbour hunting jacket:)
Advertisement Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Hi Matsaly, Take a look here Waning interest in Q2 (pre-purchase). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted April 10, 2019 Share #42 Posted April 10, 2019 Carry personal insurance for everything the warranty does not, if your location, carrier and personal circumstances permit. I always have done so, meaning that any damage or loss (even due to stupidity) results in inconvenience, not financial loss (but of course premium charges... balanced by peace of mind). Matsaly Posted April 10, 2019 Author Share #43 Posted April 10, 2019 It's very good advice. I'm looking into whether my homeowners policy might cover this type of potential loss.
