I have not been able to successfully answer this question in other forums.

I have an original Russar 20mm (not the new Lomo version) and want to try it on an M9. But I am afraid it will damage the shutter with its deep rear lens. Has anyone used it on an M9?

Thanks.

You can never damage the shutter with a lens that doesn't damage the shutter of a film M. The distance is approximately the same. But you may damage the baffles in front of the shutter, and damage the inside of the camera mouth when mounting a collapsed lens. So mount extended.

You can find the rest of the answer in the FAQ:

So I finally tried the Russar and for the record it does indeed fit and work well! (Except for the color shift on the edges.)Thanks for your reply. So I finally tried the Russar and for the record it does indeed fit and work well! (Except for the color shift on the edges.)
