NZDavid Posted March 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve read the M9 sensor thread but am pondering what to do. Is there a new link on the Leica site (one of those posted previously is now invalid)? I have just discovered, when getting my M9 sensor professionally cleaned that it is showing early signs of corrosion. This was not present on prior cleaning. I bought the camera in 2011. Getting it repaired would be an option, but takes ages from New Zealand. I wonder if the upgrade option is available here? Or should I try overseas? The M10 looks tempting. At the same time I might look at trading a film camera. I also need a new compact to replace my old D-Lux 5. All suggestions welcome!
Advertisement Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Hi NZDavid, Take a look here Replace or repair M9 with sensor corrosion?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted March 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2019 I think that you don't have Leica Store in NZ. OZ may be the nearest : Melbourne Sydney I'd ask them if they can offer "update program".
John McMaster Posted March 25, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 25, 2019 Contact Greg or Lacklands.... john
NZDavid Posted March 25, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted March 25, 2019 Thanks, I heard from Leica direct. Yes, Lacklands is the NZ agent, but my previous experience was that sending product to Leica and back takes many months. As I am travelling soon, perhaps I could try Singapore. I am thinking more about what model to choose as a longterm replacement.
Ko.Fe. Posted March 25, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 25, 2019 Last time I checked, M10 was not in the trade in of M9 with corroded sensor. It was M240. Having camera for eight years and trading it for new camera isn't bad deal, IMO.
NZDavid Posted March 26, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted March 26, 2019 Yes, there's a trade in offer for all M digital models: 262, 240, 246, M10 and M10-P, and also SL. Leica's trade0-in offer on the M10 is €5,350.
Johnhagen Posted March 26, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 26, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gidday - Lacklands handled my M9-P sensor repair. It took just over a month point to point. And it's like a new. I considered the M10 upgrade but ultimately went with repair (second sensor so at least this one is corrosion-free).
NZDavid Posted March 26, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted March 26, 2019 Thanks, they must have improved. It took four months to get my old X1's sensor fixed, so I couldn't take it on a trip. That was sometime ago. I'll give them a call.
gbealnz Posted March 27, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 27, 2019 Since you're paying, try Camera Clinic as well in Melbourne. My X1 needed a flash fix (flash head didn't retract properly, and it "flashed" every exposure, even when sort of retracted). Quick, and efficient. Doubt I still have their details but I'll look, if I find them I'll e mail you. Gary
NZDavid Posted March 27, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted March 27, 2019 Thanks Gary, great to have some options! Lacklands can help; waiting to hear details. We're also going to be in Germany in May; wonder if that may work out, too?
NZDavid Posted March 29, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted March 29, 2019 Lacklands was very helpful. Looks like the M10 is a good choice. Yes, all Leica price tags cause a sharp intake of breath, but it's a good offer. I think the problem with the previous delay with the X1 some years ago was probably the very slow international postal service. C19 around-the-world tea clipper sailing ships were faster!
