drdavis74 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #1  Posted March 22, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) hopefully someone can help. a little while ago I dropped my SL. about a foot down to the floor. Now, the battery is completely jammed and wont come out. The lever release does not engage, and I have to pry the battery out but its still jammed. I assume the mechanism that engages when you push the battery in to release is damaged. attached it a photo of how far I can get it out, then its just stuck there. any thoughts? thanks. gonna post on some other forums as well. hoppyman Posted March 23, 2019 Share #4  Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) Of course there must be some damage to the camera itself perhaps including the battery retention system, There may be other damage/misalignment too. However, if the battery itself is damaged/split there is a real safety issue. You might want to consult firstly with a dealer or Leica service before even attempting to send the camera anywhere (Transport safety rules for the battery). I would definitely recommend that you don't try to forcefully remove the battery. It MAY be safe to remove but you couldn't be sure of that. It might cause further damage in the camera itself as well. Those are worst case conditions bur much better to be safe. Your photo does not show any exterior damage to camera baseplate. The battery retaining pin fits in the central groove in the side of the battery. When the battery is pressed into the camera body, the retaining pin 'locks' into the 'L' shaped groove extension at the top of the battery. The battery release lever only partly pushes the retaining pin out of the 'L' shaped groove extension. A further finger 'push' on the battery is then necessary … which fully disengages the retaining pin, and releases the battery … whence the battery springs out.  You might try pushing the battery back in again and then reactivate the release lever. If the battery then partly pops up (as it's designed to do), gently push it down again slightly … whence (if no damage) it will fully pop out.   Seems unlikely that the battery retaining/release mechanism would be damaged after dropping the camera from a height of just one foot dunk Edited March 28, 2019 by dkCambridgeshire typo Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Roy Second that, the RRS L-Bracket for the Leica SL is contoured, made especially for the camera (is not a generic one): it both looks beautifully integrated with the cameras looks, does not impede any functionality of the camera, add a little height to the camera's body (I found that to make the camera much more comfortable), and protect the baseplate & battery compartment from accidents.
