I've been developing film at home for a little over a year.  I shoot FP4 or HP5, so far at box speed only.  I've been using DD-X and I was getting low and needed to order more but I thought I'd try something new.  I did some research and thought I'd try Ilfotec HC so I placed an order.  Now I'm having second thoughts because I researched further and discovered a lot of what I read was actually regarding Kodak HC 110.  (I know, dumb. I thought HC was a proprietary Ilford brand but I think it's just High Concentrate abbreviated.)

Here are my questions:

If I do everything by the book, (no pushing, recommended develop times and temperatures and dilution of 1+31), should I get about the same general results I got with DD-X?  By results, I mean contrast, grain, and sharpness.

Specifically regarding FP4 and grain, will there be a big difference between using DD-X or Ilfotec HC?

Once I make the four liters of stock solution, how long of shelf life should I expect?  At 1+31 I'll probably have enough developer to last years since I've been averaging about three rolls of film per month.  If I make two liters of stock solution, will the remaining half liter of concentrate keep for a year or two?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Ray
