Another significant milestone in American racing, this very car is the '28 Indy 500 winner, the first front wheel-drive car to accomplish the feat. Harry Miller's wondrous creations were characterized by being far ahead of their time, winning the Indianapolis 500 mile race 9 time in total, with additional victories in which Miller's engines were utilized by winning race cars built by others.

Common to all Miller cars was the immaculate execution of the cars built by his factory, with attention being paid to the smallest detail and their use of innovative features, such as four wheel-drive, front wheel drive,  alloy pistons, and many other important contributions to the automotive industry. So respected was Miller's genius that Ettore Bugatti himself purchased two of the 10 frontwheel- drive racers, including the car shown here, to study them and to learn and incorporate some of Miller's features in the best, most expensive Bugattis of the era.

When Miller finally declared bankruptcy in '33 after struggling during the depression, his chief engine designer / mechanic Fred Offenhauser and a few other ex-Miller employees branched off on their own and devoloped the Miller engine into the immortal, classic Offenhauser motor which would go on to win the Indy 500 race 27 times.
