I recently acquired, for £45 (GBP), an old Leitz Angle finder originally supplied to fit Leica R cameras.

This requires a modified bracket to fit an SL which a relative with a serious workshop agreed to make for me.

The attached image shows the finder with the new bracket attached and the .pdf is an engineering drawing.

FWIW: There is a right-angle VF made by Lei-Ko as well (to an entirely different cost, I would imagine)...

helged,

That bracket looks interesting. Problem is I can’t read German. Can you tell me it’s cost?

Peter,

Nice job on the adapter for your bracket. Wonder what use you are doing with it?

No cost mentioned, but you can send an email to Michael Leibfritz <m.leibfritz@t-online.de> (he reads and responds in English). And if you plug the German url-address into e.g. Google Translate, you get an English alike translation...

Good question.  I just thought it was too good an opportunity to let go.

I had the previous Right Angle finder, (14 186 I think), which I used on my Leica R bodies.   I found it very useful on occasions when doing close up work with the 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R.  Not, of course, that Leica offer a Macro lens for the SL but there is hope that the alliance with Sigma will soon result in an L Mount Macro lens being available.

The other significant use was for those interior, (and some exterior), shots where the camera is in a situation with restricted access to the viewfinder.  Using the camera on a copying stand almost demands such a finder.

The Right Angle finders sold by Leica were I believe made my Minolta.  Mine certainly works very well with the SL though I mainly use AF.

I accept that am very fortunate to have such a talented and well equipped son-in-law.  The cost of getting one made even with the engineering drawing available will probably be quite high.
