I know this will have been asked a million times, but welcome any thoughts. I have been using my lovely chrome M8.2 with a couple of Zeiss lenses. Photography is just a hobby I wish I could do more often. I now have the chance to upgrade and was initially looking at a lovely used M9-P (with new sensor and about 8k clicks). I think it is priced a bit steep though despite being mint, and is it really much different than my M8.2?.

However, the same dealer has a mint ex-demo M240 for around £500 less which seems a great deal, or I could trade up to a brand new M10 (c. £2.5k more than M9-P).

Either the M9-P or M240 would allow me to upgrade or add to my lenses (or even keep the M8.2), the M10 would swallow all my budget (but itself is still a good deal) and I am worried I won't take it with me always (given value).

I am even thinking of buying a used Q alongside a new M:  M9-P (or M240) for patient photography, Q for modern convenience of wifi, etc. But I will never carry 2 cameras, so does an M10 just bring those together better.

I know I will have to decide (Heart says M9-P, GAS says M10, Head says M240).

Any thoughts from more experienced users?

Despite being very fond of CCD colours I'd take the 240 option. The P attributes aren't that great, the 10 is a big price jump (another lens?}.

With digital it's here today, gone tomorrow. FF is what I want from a camera.

That's my opinion anyway.

Well, heart won - I bought the M10! Just absolutely loved its handling and viewfinder. In practice pictures won't be really that much different than M240, but just knew the moment I picked it up it was perfect for me and would keep me happy for years to come.

if anyone is interested in a lovely chrome M8.2, do get in touch !

I understand the choice. I was still happy with my M9 after 7 years - especially when Leica replaced the sensor at no charge. But when extra funds became available last year I added an M10 body, and while the M9 is a worthy backup, I now mainly use the M10 for its VF and high ISO. I'm also just a hobbyist, but have used Leica Ms since 1968, and nothing else feels right.
