Torontoamateur Posted March 1, 2020 Author Share #21  Posted March 1, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The vendor of the 21mm SEM was a fraud. So weirdo and I never received the lens and PayPal preserved my money. I was upset and could not find another as soon as needed. I found a 21mm Zeiss in Nikon mount and grabbed it. Used it on my D800E. Seems fine. I still long for the 21mm SEM. Funny how owning a lens becomes a "goal" and there is a need to satisfy. May have found one locally. I remain concerned about the offer being a sham in that the condition of the lens described a 'new" may not be. The vendor wants to meet in a coffee shop yet I remain suspicious. Is this real or a scam to bring me with $3,000 in my pocket to be mugged? Or pay for the lens and then be mugged with no money and also no lens? I guess I should let this "deal" go and stick with known dealers and ignore this KIJIJI nonsense. What would you do?

otto.f Posted March 1, 2020 Share #22  Posted March 1, 2020 If it doesn’t feel good why bother. Are you in a hurry? When do you leave to that secret far away place?

Why pay 3000 dollars for a used lens when you can buy a new one for 2850,- Euro (including 19% VAT)? https://www.meister-camera.com/de/produkt/5565/leica-super-elmar-m-3421mm-asph  A used one should go for close to half that price. I paid something like 1700,- Euro.

Is the person an owner or a vendor? do they have photos of the lens? it should come with the shade. The 21 SEM doesn't have the protection ring for when you aren't using the hood
Kwesi Posted March 1, 2020 Share #25 Â Posted March 1, 2020 I just checked out the item and its not new. It has no box or papers and the lens has a protective filter on it. Price is just ok if in Canadian dollars, but its definitely not a new lens. Xavier Posted March 1, 2020 Share #26  Posted March 1, 2020 So sad to read about this story! I think there are ways to make a local deal safer, like go with someone and/or select a place that you choose. Do some research online before going there, so that you know precisely what the lens looks like. And also make sure to test it. Good luck, I hope it works out this time!
