russell Posted July 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been using my Summar on an R-D1 and now on the M8. In order to get the best results you have to use one of these B&W 486 UV/IR filters. Problem is I dont know which filter size and thread pitch that fits onto the Summar. Someone mentioned that it's a 34mm but I wouldnt know for sure... It seems Foto Huppert has a 34mm x 0.5 I could buy.. Does anyknow know? Thanks

Philippe D. Posted July 19, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 19, 2007 Hi! Summar ... It seems Foto Huppert has a 34mm x 0.5 I could buy.. Does anyknow know? Yes, E34 is the right size. But do you really need an IR filter on your Summar ?
russell Posted July 19, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 19, 2007 Yes, for the M8 you do. Otherwise all the trees go reddish. And black clothes also go magenta. So, you kind of need it...

luigi bertolotti Posted July 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 19, 2007 Summar accepts also the well known A36 filter size with clamp screw, superstandard for used on the perennial Elmar... can be found an IRUV of this kind ?
russell Posted July 20, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted July 20, 2007 >can be found an IRUV of this kind? No. That's one of the problems. I hope one of the filter makers wakes up and makes one. going forward with everything digital this will be the only filter anyone will buy. All the others dont make sense anymore. But anyone using an old Leica lens on any future bodies will want this A36 slideon. They could sell quite a few I'm sure...

They could sell quite a few I'm sure... ... for savvy collectors of little Leitz accessories... it came to my mind that some solution would exist... and searching between my various gear I found the SOOGZ / 13154 : an A36 clamp on ring that accepts the E39 filters. You could then use the 'standard' Leica filter - and also mount a 39mm lens hood. SRB-Griturn (SRB-GRITURN LTD) in UK has a good range and will make odd sizes to special order. Philippe D. Posted July 20, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2007 But anyone using an old Leica lens on any future bodies will want this A36 slideon.I wonder if any manufacturer would bother to do that. The solution given by Luigi is excellent. But if you madly want an IR filter on A36 mount, you could take a new E39 IR, let the glass be re-cut down to Ø34mm by a optician an put it in replacement of the old one. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted September 11, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 11, 2011 A36 IR filters can be had on ebay, I have one that holds back about 5 stops of light. The OP means an IR blocking filter, not an IR-passing filter
