The currents developed by that suspended airplane as it moves through air provides the mathematical rationale behind the curved shapes.  The displays are arranged according to the shape of the air flow  as it would be seen in plan view. I have to admit, it takes a while to "get it"  as it is a bit confusing architecturally when you first enter.
