When visiting the Town Hall in Stamford, Lincs. UK yesterday, I was greeted in the foyer by the wax effigy of Daniel Lambert 1770-1809 … a former Leicester gaol keeper, field sports expert, swimming instructor, dog breeder … and self-exhibitor to the London gentry from whom he accumulated a ££fortune in exhibition proceeds. At the time of his death aged 39 years in 1809, , he weighed 739 pounds / 335 kilos  … at that time England's heaviest man.  He is buried in a cemetery adjacent to St Martins Church Stamford where his grave and headstone are well looked after. Daniel Lambert had been resident in Stamford for a relatively short time when he died but his body was too large to ship back to his native town of Leicester. HIs Leicester friends contributed to his headstone which is inscribed:

In Remembrance of that Prodigy in Nature.
DANIEL LAMBERT.
a Native of Leicester:
who was possessed of an exalted and convivial Mind
and in personal Greatness had no Competitor
He measured three Feet one Inch round the Leg
nine Feet four Inches round the Body
and weighed
Fifty two Stone eleven Pounds!
He departed this Life on the 21st of June 1809
Aged 39 years
As a Testimony of Respect this Stone is erected by his Friends in Leicester

Leica SL 601 /  Canon 24mm TS … the only lens with me at the time.

Best wishes
