Hi All

 

Not quite sure if this is the right place but nearest match I reckon.

 

I have an epson r2400 & very pleased with the results. However a couple of weeks ago I started printing via Photoshop with an OS9 classic setting on my G5 & noticed that I was ... all of a sudden given the option of different types of paper (i.e. ultra glossy, semi gloss etc). Previously this was not an option as I only had plain, glossy photo, archival matte).

 

Now I tried to do some more printing yesterday and it has gone back to the old setting. I don't know what I did to either get the different types option or to lose it. Can anyone help?

I only work on OS X so I'm not completely certain we're talking about the same thing but I know that the paper choices change with the type of black ink loaded (Matte Black vs. Photo Black). And the choices change depending on which feeder you're using (i.e. "sheet feeder" vs. "Manual-Roll") and so on. Did you change any of these parameters for your two prints?

Paul - the R2400 has two menu types, Advanced and Basic. If you click the button at the bottom right of the R2400 printer menu to Advanced you should see a whole range of options including the paper types and sizes.

Thank you both for that. It makes sense. I remember that I did change from photo balck when I was doing the colour printing to matte black for text. I have not changed the inks back.

 

Dh... I am not sure what you mean the button at the bottom right hand side. Which menu is this and what programme do you see it in? I have the printers utility screen that pops up to give me printer status. Apart from that I I only print via photo-shop (using the classic) and word.

I always print from my R2400 using PS CS2 and the "Print with Preview" mode. Select "Page set-up" then "Printer", then select "Epson Stylus Photo R2400" (if you have more than one printer connected to your computer), then "Properties" and the button I am referring to is on that menu!

 

It sounds long winded but in practice it is very quick and simple. Good luck!

Since Print with Preview gives an indication of the orientation of the image and its placement on the page, I always find myself on the pages and menus you mention, anyway.

 

I thot using Epsons's was an inexpensive way to make prints ($2 for an 8x10), but my final prints have been well below 50% of the total output. I'm expecting big changes from the use of Image Print.

Bill- I took you advice in another thread and downloaded a trial version of Image Print. Have worked with it briefly with the Epson R2400, BUT even with the draft watermark the improvement in "quality" from the Lightroom process is huge. I can feel my pocket becoming $500 lighter (no pun intended). Thanks for the suggestion.

 

p.s. where in the Boston area do you do your photo stuff buying, or are you a internet buyer.

Dave, I love to spend other people's money.

 

I will say that IP is fantastic. EVERY print looks just like the image on my screen; this is a new experience for me in 10 years of printing digitally.

Dave, I bought my D2 and my M8 from Bromfield Camera in Boston, where I have been a customer for more than a quarter century (I've always wanted to say that). My 50 'lux-A came from there, as well.

 

I buy everything I can (not just photog stuff) on the web. I use Popflash for camera stuff, Atlex.com for inkjet supplies, Epson for refurb printers, LaCie for refurb external drives, and searches for the best price for things like SD cards. I got my 24mm f2.8-A lens on eBay at the end of last year just before the M8 arrived.

 

I plan to purchase my next new car this way. I left way too much money on the table at the Toyota dealer to be treated like slime. I mentioned to my mechanic how much I miss the Jeep dealer I frequented for 25 years and he said it is the wall-mart-ing of the American auto industry.

 

I also live near Zeff photo in Belmont (next to Cambridge) which is open 7 days a week and where I can get emergency supplies or (gasp) a photo print. This place is very friendly to photog's and has knowledgeable and helpful staff. For example, I don't have lights so when I do a studio shoot I rent there.

 

Not to put the brick and mortar stores out of business, but most (for example, CVS) no longer stock many items or have stopped carrying an item I used to buy there.

 

I do have a rule: when I use a store to get advice, I buy the product there.
