Hello,

I am new to the SL and am using it with a Leica M-SL adapter and a coded Leica 35mm f/2.0 lens.  The Live View button is assigned to Focus Mode, and while I realize that it will have no effect with a manual lens, pressing that button now brings up the audio meter.  Is that a normal occurrence when using a manual lens?

Thank you in advance

Ron

ditto .... and create a custom profile for Manual lenses ..... you can rearrange all of the buttons and dials to suit.

but it's still not possible to assign any other function than default (wb grey card) to the Fn Button in video mode - bug in firmware which Leica ignores for more then three years, sadly...

Thank you for your replies.  I am not trying to assign a function to the Live View button—it already has focus mode assigned to it— but I would like to know if what I've experienced is a normal feature that appears when a manual lens is attached. That is, the assigned function of focus mode switches to the Audio Meter.

A short press on the LV button switches the camera to video mode (which is why you see the bars of the audio meter). A short press on the adjacent video release button (the one with the red dot in the middle) starts and stops video recording. Doesn't matter what type of lens is on the camera. A long press on the LV button brings up whatever function is assigned to it - yours is apparently set for focus mode, I've changed mine to change exposure metering. Go into Setup menu/Customize Controls/Shortcuts to change.

Thank you, that is exactly the kind of info I was searching for that I either overlooked, or could not find in the manual.

Kristian Dowling put together a very good video on how to set up the buttons and other options on the SL. It focuses on how he sets it up for the way he shoots, but you'll get some ideas from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HPLRS1PV-8&list=RDQMJS7y5aWxRk8

Also, the manual you have has probably been superceded in some places by firmware revisions (now up to version 3.3). Leica Store Miami put together this article and video on the changes made in version 3.0, the last mondo revision to the firmware: https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2017/05/leica-sl-firmware-3-0-released-major-updates/#comment-112687

I appreciate the heads up, in re the setup, but I'd purchased the SL from the Leica Store Miami and Josh had already provided his cheat sheet for button setup. The manual was a tad lacking in the explanation of same, however.  But I think I'm good to go at the moment.

Thanks again
