iPad 2 firmware update question

My iPad 2 is operating on version 9.3.1 and I have the option to upgrade to 9.3.5. I have been holding off for a long time due to negative comments about the later version turning it to muck, in the sense of slowing it down.

It's hard to unscramble fact from fiction, I'm just wondering if anyone here has any words of encouragement or discouragement with regard to updating to 9.3.5, based on actual user experience with the iPad 2.

Mine is on 12.0.1 and wants to instal 12.1

i have not noticed any slow down, but I am not an expert on I pads.

i am using it now.

Speed improvements where made in the latest version (12.x). One of ours is an iPad Air 2 that runs 12.1 and it works well. YMMV.

Thanks to both of you, I'm actually running a bit of an iPad dinosaur - version 2, one of the early ones. Apparently 9.3.5 is the top end firmware for this early model, anyway I've taken the plunge and have updated. 

When it does or gets so damn slow I think I'll replace with an android. Not a big fan of Apple.

Difference in performance between the old version 2 and modern versions are huge. You might wonder if you should not upgrade anyway.
