rintopinto Posted October 31, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, there. Because the successor of the S007 will probably be released in spring 2019, the latter will soon be available on the used market for less than 6K. So my expectation. That makes the model affordable for me. I have already read myself into the matter. Nevertheless a few questions are open. I am most concerned with the representation of skin tones without post-processing, i.e. OOC. Do you work with Leica's embedded profile or do you use Adobe Standard or other software like Capture One? In my opinion, the Pentax 645Z, for example, delivers by far the most natural skin tones OOC. I was able to make sure of this because there are many DNG files to download. Now, despite the attractive price, this model is out of the question for me for other reasons. Can anyone of you provide DNG files of portraits? I would be interested in both studio setting and outdoor. Of course only for testing purposes. That would be really helpful! I couldn't find anything online, except some really badly photographed examples in artificial light.
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Hi rintopinto, Take a look here S007 DNG portrait samples?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
geetee1972 Posted October 31, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2018 I would be happy to help. Message me with your email address and I can create a DropBox folder for you with plenty of samples. They will all be natural light and DNG.
hoppyman Posted October 31, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) I would be very surprised if the price for a used Typ 007 dropped as sharply as you hope there when the S3 starts to become available. I guess that might vary according to the marketplace where you can shop too? The price for that one is unknown currently of course but I would guess it will be quite a bit more expensive. It might be some time before anyone starts to replace their current S, if many do. i shoot primarily in studio with the S. If it’s of interest you can browse my portrait galleries here: The filenames starting with S . You would have to scroll back a fair way to see shots with the Typ 006 or S2 http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman/cp I process DNG in Lightroom and use the Adobe Standard profile as the basis of my developing. I think the embedded profile is mainly of interest were you not shooting DNG. Really there are so many variables that can influence how the files are rendered from subject to light to profile to develop settings to viewing hardware etc , I think it would be very difficult to make any firm conclusions from comparisons. Some forum members express a preference for the images from the earlier sensor too. I am an amateur but I have shot a fair volume of photos with the S system. I have never seen a dramatic difference as far as that goes. Other factors like dynamic range are more significant to me. Perhaps you might have an opportunity to rent an S to see if its suited you best over the Pentax? I can't comment anything about that one or Capture One. rintopinto Posted November 2, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) First of all thanks to geetee1972! The pictures really helped me to better assess the camera's capabilities. As far as the price is concerned, this will become apparent in the coming months. That will probably depend on how much new stock there is left. I have tried to get in touch with someone who works professionally with a 007 to take a closer look at the camera. The commercial rental companies are unfortunately all too expensive for me. Even for one day. A question because it just occurs to me. Is the autofocus of the lenses really as loud and intrusive as it is in some videos on YouTube? In the concrete case it was the APO-Macro-Summarit-S 120 f/2.5, but I'd rather look at the Leica Summarit-S 1:2,5/70 mm ASPH for the beginning anyway. rintopinto Posted November 2, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) I'm based in Vienna, Austria (Europe). When you say, it does not recognise the S series, you mean tethered shooting or raw support? I believe there is only a generic color profile, but apart from that it should work. Not a huge fan of Capture One so far. Edited November 2, 2018 by rintopinto

If the focus movement is from minimum to far away then you will get maximum movement and noise, especially if you haven't selected a sufficiently lit and contrast target to focus on. For both the 70 and 120 my method (in studio) is to have the camera set to MF and back button to activate AFs. So the lens is never driving over a longer focus range and I am not bothered by any focus noise/delay at all. If you were to be using AFC or focus actuation by release first pressure you would be much more likely to see any 'hunting' issue. The 70 is my most used lens at that 56mm equivalent focal length. The results from the 120 are superb however. I am not a professional but I have shot quite a bit with the S series. Just did an exposure count and its 58000 plus exposures currently. I am surprised that you cant access a rental example if you are considering buying into the system which is a considerable investment as we all appreciate. It might be worth considering whether you could visit Wetzlar for hands on perhaps or something with the Academy? It's a very personal preference though.
