salvatore Posted July 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like many other people my budget doesn't allow me to buy a M8 with a lens, so I'm waiting for a cheaper Leica (not a panaleica please). In film we've got the CL and CM cameras, but actually there's no this option. I want the IQ of a M8 without the more expensive parts, is it posible? What parts could be remove to lower the price to 1500-2000€ without loose too much? diferent viewfinder?, no interchangeable M lenses? no need to have a shutter? A compact with big sensor and a 35mm lens could be perfect, but is it technically posible at this price point? PS: Sorry for my english

jaapv Posted July 16, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2007 There are quite a number of excellent compacts around. As soon as you reduce size, you have to reduce sensor size. That is the most expensive part of a digital camera, so it impacts on price more than anything else. A non-rangefinder 10 Mp camera ( the other expensive part on the M8) - well- It would not be an M camera, and would not be able to use M lenses. The most logical budget alternative is still, and will remain for a long time,an Epson RD1. But smaller it is not, nor current....
ehecatl Posted July 16, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 16, 2007 what's wrong with a panaleica? given that i couldn't find a v-lux, i broke down and bought the fz50. it's larger than i'm used to carrying, but it's been great so far, i used it at summercase this past weekend in barcelona. my primary interest in it was the long zoom. i also have a d-lux 3, it's also been a great compact camera. absolutely nothing wrong with a panaleica. and i agree with jaap, a good budget alternative is an rd1. i love mine. i've been keeping up a quick-n-dirty web photo gallery on picasa that includes snaps from my various cameras: Picasa Web Albums - Santiago i consider it more of a fun site for showing friends and family what i'm up to/where i've been. my regular (currently out-of-date) website with photo galleries is at: jóm
