The manual states that the fastest sync speed for flash photography is 1/500s, but in some reviews online I read that it will work up to 1/2000s (maximal mechanical shutter speed).

Can anyone confirm that 1/1000s and 1/2000s are possible with Q? It's a big deal for me before buying my first strobe.

Yes the Leica Q will indeed synch at 2000th of a second, as indeed any leaf shutter will synch at its maximum mechanical speed. There is no question of the sensor being covered during part of the exposure, which is the issue with focal plane shutters. I have just taken a shot @ 2000th sec with my Q and sf40 to confirm the theory. No problem
