Quay Brothers: Anamorphosis

Fascinating!
It seems I’ve been dabbling in anamorphosis without knowing it, haha.
My plan was to trick the eye by distorting the image. However with my photographic effort there is no way of constructing reality once captured by the camera. Quite different to the wood carvings in the video.
I sometimes think that ‘standard’ pictures can quite boring, somewhat repetitive portraying objects that can easily be seen “without“ the aid of a camera. My aim is to enter a dream-like situation but I’m not there yet.

Dream-like, definitely. Go for it with the polyptychs that create a surprising narrative, often very subliminal. I've been taking a look at Trent Parke's Black Rose, thanks to Phil, and talk about dream-like. Wow! Minutes to Midnight, too. He's just come out with The Crimson Line, too.

And from time to time I find that an otherwise very ordinary photo can be given extra dimension

I appreciated  your thoughts  ....’Character Style and Mood in Photography’ and image making.........and.....the introduction to Saul Leiter.

I hope it's ok to post non-Leica shots here. I would need longer arms to take this with my Summicron 🙂 . Ilford FP4+ 125 @ 100. PMK development 1:2:100.

I know it's more of a collage, but maybe it'll fit.

I know it's more of a collage, but maybe it'll fit.

Josef Albers defined two types of diptychs in the 20s: two or more photographs grouped according to a narrative or chronology, and two or more photographs grouped by theme or subject. Definitely collage work, too. Take a look at the paperback book The Photographs of Josef Albers, which is a "Selection from the Collection of the Josef Albers Foundation." There is one triptych, three photographs of Paul Klee smoking a cigar, which is sequential, and on the adjoining page is a polyptych, a collage of six portraits of Klee, just head shots of varying sizes. He's even got collages that are themed on graphic elements, like zigzags, and one of a stadium that is a spliced panorama, kind of like what David Hockney has done with Polaroids.

You see, your outstanding collage hits the mark for this thread that Steve started two years ago.

Cheers,
Rog

I gravitate toward this "subjective eyesight" theme. It's what perspective is all about, putting the viewer into the artist's "line of vision." Very subjective.
