Re-fitting the handgrip to my CL last night I notcied the small 'peg' protruding (more than in my Q grip) through the base liner, and thought this might leave a mark on the camera if main screw tightened. However, checking with a small piece of paper inserted at that end of the camera I see Leica cleverly places the peg in the cutout where the battery/SD card release lever sits! So nothing to worry about then…

Yes - it is a rotation stop.

Despite the grip being quite ergonomic, I find that this is about the only thought-through part. I mostly use the CL with the grip attached, it fits my hand better, but I stil find it a pain to have to remove it for each battery and card change, that it has no quick-release system and above all that it has no tripod socket - the last is really inexcusable.

Maybe I should drill and thread a hole.

I have been discussing it with Will van Manen, and he seems to see this as a realistic idea. I'll send the grip to him after my holiday, in November.

I find the Lim CL  case is a good solution to this problem. It incorporates metal hand grip, a dovetail plate for tripod use and access to the battery compartment solving several problems neatly and economically.

Unfortunately no. I tried removing the screws on the underside of the base plate but while they allow removal of the upright part of the hand grip and the dovetail plate the leather case appears to be firmly bonded to the base plate.

LIM does make a thumb grip but I could not find a separate hand grip on an internet search.
