I'm considering MF and will need a suitable scanner - no darkroom unfortunately.

The Epson V800 is selling for quite a margin compared to the V850 and I'm wondering what benefits I would be missing out on compared to the V850. Both are supplied with Silverfast and I'm aware the V800 has the budget version (I'm a Plustek 8200 user running Silverfast Ai). Apart from that the V850 has improved negative frames and a duplicate set; the latter is not a real issue but the negative frames with the height adjustment capability and anti-Newton rings might be worth while, but I'm not sure.

But scanner wise, excluding the software and the negative carrier differences, would I be missing out if I purchased the V800 in favour of the V850?

Many thanks...

I looked into getting one of these scanners some time ago, and also went the Plustek 8200 route for my 35mm negs. I still need a flatbed scanner because I have a lot of old photos I want to digitize and also for my panoramic negs.

I believe there is a hardware difference too. Different coatings IIRC. I have read differing opinions about theses. As usual, some reviewers rave about them, others think they are not worth the increased price.

Also, I guess you know this, but your Silverfast licence wont work for both the Plustek and the Epson. Although you get the software "free" (yeah right), bundled with each, you'll need to pay twice for future upgrades.
