skimmel Posted September 1, 2018 Share #1  Posted September 1, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I rented a 55-135 for my CL this weekend. I noticed that when I zoom and power is on, there is a whirring/grinding sound in the lens. (Doesn't happen when camera is off.) Also, doesn't seem to be aperture changing since it happens even with higher apertures where f-stop doesn't change when zooming.  Is this normal?  Thanks.

jaapv Posted September 1, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted September 1, 2018 That is a lens with sand inside. Mine is silent, with a small clicking sound from time to time when focussing.

I will let the rental agency know. I assume the lens will still work OK?
jaapv Posted September 1, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted September 1, 2018 I couldn't say whether it will function correctly. It doesn't reflect well on the rental company - they should check their gear before giving it out.
