I know - monocoque construction. There is a rear sub-frame bolted to monocoque body to carry rear suspension that was a rust problem itself. There would still be a alloy 'chassis' plate riveted to inner wing or bulkhead with vehicle number (VIN), paint code etc.

Ok thanks for the re-education! I will however abandon any idea of a deep dive to whatever depths that grey van is laying in now to try to find the chassis / VIN number and paint code, not that there would be much paint left at this point, or van come to that!

For me this was one of the best photographs taken while you two were in Cuba, simply perfect in how the picture clearly says this is Cuba. Wonderful.
