M11 -|- 35 Summilux pre-ASPH v2 (~1983 w/DAG CLA in 2020). I can't get over how small this lens is yet it has incredible handling/haptics. I'm afraid now I will "need" a second copy so I can keep one on the M11 and one on the M4-P. Literally do not want to shoot with anything else now. Leica absolutely needs to re-release this lens.

f/1.4

f/8. Taken from a pano made with horizontal shots with the end result being square. This is a vertical 16:9 crop from that square, and the image dimensions are still 17"x30" at 300dpi. Crazy sharp stopped down in all but the tiniest sliver of the far corners.

f/1.4

Lens is nearly mint but the hood is beat up a bit. Need to buy a replacement off eBay since the new ones still in stock no longer unscrew to accept Series VII filters.

I just bought a 1981 one, Canada. Any rectangular lens hoods compatible?

Ah I see that but I was inquiring about rectangular hoods.

Sort of - but only for pre-1967 35mm Summiluxes. The OLLUX or 12522. And not perfectly rectangular.

And Ebay asking prices for these are as much as the lens itself ($2500+). ;) Collectorsville.

In theory, the recently discontinued basic plastic rectangular clip-on hood (12524 - below) for the 28 Elmarit ASPH v.1 and the 35 Summicron v.4/ASPH v.1 might fit. I have noticed that my other clip-on hoods for E39 lenses will clip on my v.2 Summilux pre. (But they are round, and vignette, since they are made for 50s and 90s)

And I think the stabilizing/aperture-index tabs on the back edge, that fit into a slot on those lenses and keeps that rectangle aligned with the camera, would have to be trimmed off. Leaving the hood free to rotate (and wrecking its value on the other lenses it is made for, as well).

Someone is making 3D-printed copies of the 12524 - I have no idea how well they would work on a Summilux, though.

And cheap enough that experimental surgery wouldn't end in tragedy. ;)

I tried and can confirm that it also fits in practice.  The notches of the hood perfectly hold onto the groove in the lens.

Tried the 12524 on a pre-ash 35 Lux as well, but unfortuntely it will spin freely 360degrees.

Hello.  I own 2 x Germany-made 35:1.4 v2 lenses, one black and one Titan.

By coincidence they are both made in 1992 with first 3 digits of serial number the same.

While I was testing some other things today I realised they have different minimum focus distances, as follows (distance measured from subject to sensor):

Germany black : 0.735

Germany titan: 0.88

Perhaps interesting to some members as I had expected them to be identical .

Motivated me to test my other 35s (all crons, v1 - 4) which all came in identical at 0.685.

If these are typical it makes the black Germany summilux very attractive indeed I think, as well as nice that the Titan is well under the expected 1m Minimum focus distance.

My Canadian one seems similar (about 90cm). Haven’t measured it precisely though. This caused me freak out when I got it as I thought it may be broken (the only time I miss having a digital camera 😂).

Mine is from Canada (the hood says Germany though) from 1979, and I measured the MFD to be approx. 89 cm. It corresponds well with the distance scale, which goes a little bit closer than 3 feet. Do you perhaps have an extra 2.5 feet mark on your black German lens?

Is there a dealer from China on eBay that makes replica Summiluxes pre-asph 😊?

There is a Japanese Summilux 50mm: the Canon 50mm LTM 1.4 that is a great piece of glass for an incredible price!

Interesting .  It doesn't , but probably should do - as you can see here it goes way past the 3ft.   The Titan one is the same as yours which makes sense if you measured .89

Considering that my Cron measurements v1 to v4 are all 0.685, let's assume my measurements are 1.5cm out .   That would mean the MFD's as follows:

Germany Titan (& Canadian?): 0.9

Germany black : 0.75

Summicrons: 0.7

Perhaps ? 🤔

Actually it's very fortunate that the 12504 revolves freely on the v2 Summilux because if one uses a Series VII Pola - the only pola filter option with these lenses - rotating the hood is the only practical method of changing the orientation of the polarising effect.

I just checked, to confirm:
Canadian one at MFD. looks exactly like the TI and @evikne’s one.
